MATTE VS. SHINY BRUSHES
This brush set is made up of shiny brushes and matte brushes. The matte brushes are not as 3D or as cool, but they have a few advantages the shiny brushes don’t. The shiny brushes have transparent areas that act as highlights. The transparent areas make the brush harder to see on multi-colored canvasses. Whenever a shiny brush overlaps a stroke (if it is a separate stroke and not part of the same stroke), the intersection doesn’t look 3D. The matte brushes, however, are more opaque. They can overlap their strokes and look fine. They also work great over combined colors. The pictures show you the difference between the matte brushes and shiny brushes the best.
WHICH BRUSHES ARE MATTE AND WHICH ARE SHINY?
Here’s a list of the matte brushes: Tube, Shaded, Sculpted, Swivel, Flow, and Color-changing Flow.
The 3D Calligraphy brush and the Color-changing 3D Calligraphy brush are somewhere in between matte and shiny.
All of the other brushes are considered shiny brushes.
HOW TO USE THE COLOR-CHANGING BRUSHES
There are 10 color-changing brushes included in this brush set. The lighter you push down when using these brushes, the closer the color will be to the color you chose. The harder you push down, the farther away the color will go from the original color.
DOWNSIDES OF THESE BRUSHES
What are a few downsides of these brushes?
- They’re hard to use on multi-colored canvasses. Because the shiny brushes are partly transparent to create built in highlights, it is harder to see them on a multi-colored canvas. On a multi-colored canvas, the 3D effect may not be so strong. This is why there are a few 3D, matte brushes included. The matte brushes work well on a multi-colored canvas.
- Light color. Because the shiny brushes are partly transparent to create built in highlights, the color will not be as strong. This varies in the brushes. In some brushes, you could choose red and get pink. In others, the color difference could be subtle.
- Overlapping. If you use a shiny brush to create two separate, overlapping lines, the intersection between them will not look great. If you overlap on the same stroke, the intersection will look fine.
PLEASE NOTE: THE COLOR-CHANGING BRUSHES DON’T WORK WITHOUT AN APPLE PENCIL. THE OTHER BRUSHES MAY NOT WORK AS WELL WITHOUT AN APPLE PENCIL.
THIS BRUSH SET MUST BE DOWNLOADED TO BE USED AND TAKES UP 22.6 MB. IF YOU DON’T HAVE AN iPAD, iPHONE OR PROCREATE, DON’T BUY THIS OR ANY OTHER DIGITAL BRUSH FOR PROCREATE. Please note that in the video, only one brush is being downloaded. Because this is a brush set, the set will download into Procreate; this means you won’t need to go to the imported section because the set will automatically appear at the top of the brush library.
