Testing crazy, fake baking hacks from So Yummy - Part 2 of series ‘Fake baking hacks’
Share
Welcome! Today I’m testing some of So Yummy’s baking hacks (the video I got these hacks from will be at the bottom of the page). Before this, I tested some of 5-minute craft’s baking hacks and that went… relatively well. Here’s the video:
In this blog, I’m testing some of So Yummy’s baking hacks. I don’t watch a lot of So Yummy, so I’m not sure if they’re trustworthy or not; I guess we’ll both find out.
Here’s the video version:
Let’s get into the hacks.
1. Pie Tin BeatersFor this hack, you cut two holes in an aluminum pie tin. Next, you put two beater attachments through the holes and attach the beater attachments to a beater. Then, you mix. This hack is supposed to stop batter from flying all over your counter and floor. I tried this hack, and it works. This is a very helpful hack, but there are a few problems. For example, if you have a deep bowl, your beaters won’t be able to reach the bottom of the bowl due to the pie tin.
Conclusion: This hack works, but be aware of what bowl you use.
2. DIY Non-Stick Spread
Who knew that if you mix butter and cocoa powder, you get a non-stick spread? This hack works, but should you really call it a hack? Bakers already use butter as a non-stick spread. All they did is add cocoa powder.
Conclusion: Yes, this hack works, but I wouldn’t consider it genius.
3. Metal Knife vs. Plastic Knife
Whenever I bake something (ex. Brownies), I always want to cut them as soon as they’re out of the oven. Sadly, if I want a clean cut, I always have to wait until they’re cold enough for my metal knife to cut it decent. Otherwise, I always get a wonky cut, and crumbs on my knife. If this happens to you, your troubles may soon be over. According to So Yummy, a plastic knife cuts a lot cleaner than a metal knife. I tried this hack, but I forgot to cut the brownie while they were hot.😳 Even though the brownies weren’t hot, I could literally feel the plastic knife cut cleaner than the metal knife; the feeling with the plastic knife was smooth, unlike the metal knife. I believe So Yummy when they say this hack works. If you try using a plastic knife to cut hot brownies (or any other alike dessert), please comment how well it worked.
Conclusion: A plastic knife works better than a metal knife for cutting desserts.
4. Moist cake trick
Moist cake is so much better than dry cake. If you get dry cake, there is a way to fix it, according to So Yummy’s next hack. You take some leftover honey (+ the honey bottle) and pour hot water into the honey bottle. Then you shake the bottle until the honey is dissolved. Next, squirt it onto the cake.
I tried this hack, and it works. You just have to be careful of how much liquid you squirt into the cake. Just a little squirt squirt will do. If you add too much, you’ll make the cake disgusting. It’ll get soggy and the water will dilute the taste.
Also, why not just get the moist cake mix? There’s cake mix now with pudding (called Betty Crockers Super Moist Cake Mix) that makes your cake very moist. It’s not super expensive either.
Conclusion: This hack works, but you must use it sparingly. Too much of this substance in one spot will make it soggy and disgusting. You could also just get moist cake mix so that your cake doesn’t get dry.
5. Thin frosting
This hack will seem a little crazy to you, but it does work. You’re going to put frosting in the microwave and melt it. Yup, you read it right. You’re going to melt frosting. What does this hack help with? Whenever I try spreading regular frosting on my cake, some of the cake tears up and makes a crumbly frosting. It looks very unprofessional and lumpy. When you melt the frosting, you can just pour it on and it’ll spread itself over the cake, with a little assistance from yourself. Then the frosting will thicken again as it cools, and you’ll have smooth, thick frosting! I always have such a problem with crumbly frosting, so this hack was great for me! If you’re melting a whole can of frosting, I suggest about 30 sec, and then if it needs a little bit more melting, 15 more sec. If you’re melting just a little bit of frosting, melt it for only 5-10 sec.
Conclusion: This hack works great! This is my favorite of the five.
Final Conclusion: All of the hacks worked, but there were a few big inconveniences. I love the hacks, but there are many simpler ways to solve the same problems.
Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed. See you next blog! 🤗
