First, I made the cake. I mixed the cake mix, water, oil, and eggs together, poured it into a pan, and slipped it into the prepared oven. As it was baking, I looked at it and realized it looks like a rising soufflé. Soon enough, the cake had baked and was out of the oven cooling.
While it was cooling, I whipped up a homemade style frosting consisting of a 8oz packet of cream cheese, 4 tbsp of butter, 1 tsp of vanilla extract, and most of a cup of powdered sugar, all mixed together until soft. When the cake had completely cooled, I spread the frosting equally across the whole entire cake and down the sides.Â
So, what exactly did I use to create this masterpiece of a cake? Simple. Fondant. Once I had baked the cake and added a layer of frosting, I added a layer of fondant on top of the cake, covering the frosting. But why does fondant make it look so… perfect?
Fondant creates a smooth, flat surface with no blemishes. It’s the most perfect way to create a perfect cake. It’s like the smoothest, most moldable, edible clay. Then I molded this ‘edible clay’ into vines and colorful roses. It gave the cake a pop of color and beauty. Then I took a pinch of powdered sugar and sprinkled it on top. Simple and beautiful. The great thing about this is you can mold the fondant into your own thing; you get to be creative. You get to create your own creative design. Each cake is different, and that’s what makes it yours.
That’s all that I did to create a beautiful masterpiece.Â
